On March 22nd Oxfam will be (re-)running the event (please see description below) in the Oxfam House with two of the women community leaders involved at the CSW: Mama Rose Thamae from 'Let us Grow', South Africa and Gladys Bamboola from 'Women Living with HIV and AIDS', Uganda. They will be joined by Mary Wandia, the newly appointed Pan Africa Gender Justice and Governance lead for Oxfam GB, who will be working closely with Irungu Houghton on leading Oxfam's support to the AWP across Africa. --- The Pan-Africa element of Oxfam's global 'Raising Her Voice' project on gender and governance was launched at the 53rd Session of the UN's Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York on March 3rd. The event was entitled 'Red Ribbons and Women's Rights' and provided a platform for women leaders and community activists from across Africa to raise the voices of poor and marginalised women, including women living with HIV and AIDS, on the progress made in exercising their rights as enshrined in the African Women's Protocol. The event was a collaboration between Oxfam GB, the Solidarity for African Women's Rights Coalition, and the UNDP.
Please join Oxfam to hear:
-
What happened at the CSW this year, what we achieved and why its relevant to Oxfam
-
What the African Women's Protocol is all about and why Oxfam supports its ratification and implementation
-
Inspirational stories of women struggling to support those living with HIV and AIDS in their communities
If anyone would like to continue the discussion with these staff and partners in more detail after the event please join a small group discussion at 3-4.30pm
